What is 90 in ‘20?
90 is the number of volunteer advocates that CASA of Luzerne County seeks to recruit, select, train, and support by the year 2020 so we can move closer to fulfilling our mission of providing a compassionate, capable volunteer advocate for every abused and neglected child in Luzerne County.
Currently, there are 420 children in foster care placement because of abuse and neglect. Each year we conduct a spring and fall training class for volunteer advocates. We added 14 new CASAs (court-appointed special advocates) in 2017. However, even with 14 new advocates this year, CASA of Luzerne County is only reaching slightly more than 10% of the total number of children in foster care placement.
So, our goal is to add 15 new advocates with each of our six training classes during the next three years. With 90 new advocates, CASA of Luzerne County can reach approximately 150–180 more children!
How can you help? Perhaps you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a volunteer advocate. Or, perhaps you are willing to make a financial contribution that will be used to support the operation of our program as we continue to recruit, select, train, and mentor more volunteer advocates.
